Alignment

Alignment is the process of positioning the lens rows to align with the Active Image prints (either on the AIP paper or stamped with an AZ stamp).

Lens application

exampleLay the lens on top of the stamped image, smooth side down with the lens lines and stamped lines in the same direction. Press down and rotate the lens slowly and observe alignment images. To prepare the lens for alignment and bonding, first cut a 6 ½” piece of ¾” masking tape. Apply the middle of the tape along the top edge on the smooth side of the lens, letting the excess tape stick out on either side. Fold over the excess tape to make tabs that extend beyond the lens. Burnish the tape with your fingernail or bone folder to make sure it is firmly on the liner.

exampleStart at one corner and pull the tape back, peeling the clear liner and exposing the pressure sensitive adhesive.

example
Use the tape tabs to pull the liner back to the width of the tape, fold over and crease the liner down over the masking tape. Again, use a finger nail to ensure a firm crease in the liner. About ¾” of adhesive will be exposed.

examplePlace the lens, smooth side down, being very careful to keep the adhesive from touching the stamped piece. Press down on the bottom of the lens (away from the taped end) and rotate the lens to see the image change. You may want to stand up and look straight down to best see the changes.

exampleRemember to move your head from side to side to see what the image will look like at different angles. When you see the alignment you like, hold the bottom of the lens firmly in place so it does not move and press the taped end to make contact with the card stock. Once the adhesive touches the glossy paper you are committed to that alignment.

exampleWith both hands, pull the tape tabs toward the bottom of the stamped piece to completely remove the liner.

example Press the lens down, turn the piece over and smooth out the air with a bone folder or squeegee.

example The stamped piece may now be trimmed, edged or die-cut, and layered as desired.
